Snow Day

So about 5 days after the last bit of the big snow-plowed mound of snow melted, we have an even bigger mound today! It's about 12 inches and counting so far. Today only a high of 19*, but tomorrow's supposed to be high 37* and sunny. See, that's the difference between VA and MI winters..MI, it would be grey, black piles of snow until April. Here, not so much:)
So, now that I've got the weather report out of the way on to Hill Family Adventures. Well, the Girls just joined the Boys for their first "expeditioning" adventure. (Yes, I see now that that's not a word, but that's what Caleb and Leon call it.) Caleb loves when his dad takes him into the woods across the street (because the back yard woods aren't big enough now). They take along their "grub" (random candy and Oreos usually) and hike over the creek and up and down steep hills all while looking for "bear" tracks and whatever else seems interesting. Today, the girls went along...did I mention we have about 12-13 inches of snow right now? Well, we went across the street (with both dogs too!), climbed down a hill, over a creek, then up "Mt. Hill." WHEW!!! We made it to the top with much ado. Most 2 1/2 year old couldn't even fathom this feat and most parents of 2 1/2 year old wouldn't consider it either...but it was fun. Ask me tomorrow when I'm sore from carrying Em home on my shoulders. We took the long, flat way back and let the boys slip down Mt. Hill.
So, we're all back home, unthawing watching Snow White and now I must make dinner. *Side note* Does anyone else's husbands wear long underwear? (and really enjoy wearing them?) Long underwear as in the butt has a flap that buttons. Think "Old Man Tucker".. I'm thinking this should be unusual, yes?
Time to make the tea for father-daughter tea party :)

nothing new

So, I've been waiting for something interesting to happen for me to blog about...but since that hasn't happened, I'll just blog anyways...this is supposed to be a "real" reflection of my life anyways for me to look back on years from now to see what life was like way back when.
Today is MLK Jr. Day. Caleb had off school and we went to two parks. I walked with the kids about a mile away to a church playground, spun my kids around the merry go round (you know, those are quite hard to come by these days. And teeter-toters (sp?) are extinct, f.y.i.) Other mom's probably think I'm crazy for swinging my kids as high as they request to go on the swings, and spinning them till they fall down from dizzyness on the spinny things. But whatever..they like it and it makes them tough, right? Then it was home for lunch (well, I sorta make random foods at random times of the day since we have a weird dinner schedule with Leon having bball practice at all times of the evenings.) Em took a nap then we went to another park...since it was high 50s today!! Take that Michigan! Then (how bad is it for an English major to start several sentences with "Then"? I DO know how elementary that sounds..but I don't care...just trying to get this down before the boys get home and bedtime routine begins). So as I was saying...THEN the boys went to bball practice, Em and I went to Angela's (my friend), now she's here in preperation to watch THE BACHELOR. Lovely run-on of a day, eh?
I do believe I am once again splurging on the diet (more on that another time? basically I'm "OFF" the diet..but have still been working out and feeling much more guilty, at least, about the 'bad' food I've been ingesting.)...and making carmel popcorn to watch The Bachelor tonight. YUM!
peace. D

live strong

So, I've been tracking my caloric input and output at Livestrong.com (it's free). It's been one whole, long, week, and I've lost a total of (drumroll......) nothing! Can you believe that? Maybe this is my body's way of telling me I'm perfect just the way I am? ha..don't think so. My wise owl of a husband tells me not to worry about the number and just go by clothes and how they fit. Well, in that case, maybe they feel the tiniest bit better? But I can't tell if it's just because I need to do laundry to "shrink" my stretched-out pants?
Also, it's tempting not to plug in every tiny bit of "exercise" I do throughout the day just so I can eat more. Did you know sitting in church burns 44 calories?
At least I'm more consious of what I'm putting into my mouth.
In other news...um....uh....not much going on this last week or this week...my hubb's leaves for a business trip this Thur-Sun...wonder what the kids and I will do to pass the time? I'm not big on staying in all day.
Since this next topic blends so well, anyone know how to get my 2 1/2 yr. old to want to poop in the toilet? She's peepee trained, but not poopoo. I always know she's poopin' when she's under a table or in a closet. That's her fav. places. (yes, she still wears pull-ups).
G'day.

The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love

Seriously? CHEESY is the best word to describe what will be this entire season of The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love (including its title). Bare with me on this one. I've been a fan of the show for the past few seasons..not missing an episode, but I haven't seen many a bachelor from the previous years. I KNOW it's fake and very produced, but I still find it quite pleasurable to watch. I couldn't believe "they" picked Jake to be the bachelor "because of all the fan mail requesting him." Yeah right! Ok, I just deleted the list of adjectives describing how annoying he is to me, but on the other hand I think it makes for an entertaining show...just roll with it, ya know? Let's just point out some of the most memorable highlights from last night's season premier.
A.) He CAN NOT throw a football. SO Girly. uck! *my friend, Angela, and I had to replay this several times and each time it looked worse. Then we got the professional opinion of my husband and he was in shock, and then quickly left the room. and by the way, didn't it look like he was lying when he told the chick he played football in highshool? (yea, maybe like 9th grade when everyone made the team and he sat the bench the whole time)
B.) Jake has some sort of eye spasm....let's watch for it some more, shall we?
C.) He repeats the question before he can think of something to say.
D.) That crazy girl! Although it's probably all editing.
E.) the one chick with the face that didn't move
F.) Are breast implants a prerequesite to be on the show?
And my prediction as the winner is... (drumroll please)...Tenley... the divorce' who's husband cheated on her, he's the only guys she's kissed (besides Jake last night) and the disney princess impersonater. They're perfect for each other, yes?
Let me know your thoughts.

Resolutions

Just so I have it in writing... does bloggin it make it legal? I hope so! Here are my 2010 resolutions (beginning on Sunday...or maybe Monday - that would be the 4th of Jan.)
1.) Read through the Bible in one year
2.) Loose 15 pounds (by exercise, portion control, eating Natural foods)
3.) Work out 4 days a week
4.) Date night every 2 weeks with the hubby. (hmm, beginning to doubt this one already?)
5.) Take 1 master's level English class (which means applying and getting accepted)
6.) Run in VA 10 Miler

Whew...a few of these seem a little out of reach (10 Miler, Master's Class), but definitely doable.
*side note* my dog Lucy has the worst gas!! They're silent killers! Be glad you're not sitting where I am.

Currently the happenings in my house are as follows: Leon and Caleb watching a Giants game in the bedroom and hooting and hollering (but I think it's an old superbowl recording - Caleb gets so into it!) and Em is topless after having just drank a mug of hot chocolate while watching Ratatoulle (sp?). She's enjoying hopping up and down to hear the fluid in her bloated stomach jiggle. Said Dog, Lucy, sprawled out next to me letting them rip, and Marley a safe few feet away as to not be blamed. Oh, and me: just played a rousing 4 games of solitare on the computer, made a "Woman's World" recipe of Chocolate Latte spiked with Leon's whisky...still have to say, I'm not a whisky fan (or any hard liquor for that matter), and mentally preparing myself to start said diet tomorrow.

Till we meet again...
